Product Review

The Stanley Classic Food Jar is the ultimate in durability. Double wall stainless steel unbreakable vacuum insulation will keep coffee or soup hot all day long, day after day. The Classic Food Jar has a stainless steel lid that can be used as a bowl, a wide mouth opening, a heavy duty handle and a rust-proof finish. Every Stanley is backed by a lifetime guarantee. In 1913, William Stanley invented the all-steel vacuum bottle. Since then, the Stanley bottle hasn't missed a day of work, a football game, or a trip to the great outdoors. The distinctive Stanley bottle is an American Icon that still works as hard today as it did nearly 100 years ago. Stanley... Built for Life.

This product is exactly what I needed, and works exactly like I expected. As a former lab-tech at an electronics review facility, my standards for quality are pretty high, especially when it comes to everyday items.
This bottle I preheated as normal, and with fully boiling water within, was cool to the touch. Stanley claims the jar will keep the contents hot for 14 hours. For the first 3 tests I quickly emptied and refilled the bottle with boiling water, sealed it, and let it sit in various environments (fridge at 30, outdoors at around 40-50, room at 65 (F)) for the full length of time. As this is a food jar, I dont anticipate opening it on a regular day until I need to eat, at which point all of the contents will likely be consumed.
At 14 hours, all the trials yielded warm to fairly hot water, with 2 likely still being hot enough for me to enjoy a soup. I re-tested, this time taking temp at 5 hours, typical lunch break, and the water was very hot in 2 trials. i didnt have...Read more

I own two, and have had problems with both. Even when pre-heated, coffee/ tea is luke warm 3 hours later. Sturdy product--should be for it is pretty heavy

5/4/07 update-- I think it is important to mention that shortly after the original review was posted, Stanley contacted me to offer a replacement. I thought this was pretty cool. I would add another star if Amazon would let me

I have in front of me both a new model (made in China), and and older model, (made in USA)
Both are Brand New out of the box.
I had bought a new one at Meijer for $22, but after reading all the disparaging comments on here regarding the lower quality, Chinese made new ones, I got on EBAY and bid on a brand new/old one for $15.
So here they are.

The old one is 3-part: Neck, Body, Base.
The new one is 2 part: Neck/Body, and base.

Both old and new handle attachment points are spot-welded.
Old one is smooth and unnoticeable.
New one has 3 distinct burn points.
Either way, a good spot weld is nothing to fear. They hold your car together just fine.

Older body metal seems to be a gauge or 2 thicker. This is not readily verifiable.
Older One definitely has a rougher/more grip-able texture, and thicker, more durable, powder coating.

Older stopper cap is not as thick as newer one...by about 3/8"
