100% Leak and spill proof,
June 7, 2007 I had a friend with this mug and I have been looking for the same closing lid design ever since. It is the only lid design I trust to close, stay closed and not leak one drop after I tossed the mug in my backpack for a day's worth of running around.
I didn't realize that no other mug besides the ones made by Trudeau had that lid mechanism. Believe me you will be 100% satisfied if you are looking for a mug that can roll around in any orientation and never leak. This is not some simple snap closed drinking hole type lid you see on other travel mugs, this is a fantastic sealing mechanism.
Add to that the fact you can drink from any side of the cup, not just a little hole that lines up with your mouth if you hold the mug the right way.
I don't know why you would ever buy another mug when this one is available. It even comes with a 5 year warranty on the closing/sealing mechanism. Really this mug is just shy of a thermos for leak/spill proof reliability,...Read more

bad seal design,

Looks nice. Locking lid is watertight. BUT, on mine, there was a gap in the seal between the aluminum and plastic on the inside that allows liquid to get in and fester. I couldn't figure out why it kept smelling like spoiled milk even after several extreme washings (and no, I did not put it in a dishwasher). That was because there WAS spoiled coffee with milk up inside the gap between the plastic 'seal' and aluminum body! While cleaning, I noticed that stuff was coming out from under the plastic rim.
I took it apart and resealed the lip with epoxy, but I should NOT have had to reengineer their product!
For this price, that is ridiculous. (p.s. I only paid $9 for it at Target, so maybe I had an 'earlier' version).

Sorta spillproof but not really,

If you fill this mug with the lid in the closed position and then screw the lid on, it is very nearly leakproof. But once you drink from it, liquid gets trapped between the lower seal and the holes in the lid top. Then, even if in the Closed position, there is a fair bit of liquid to dribble out. Not really, truly ready for prime time but OK if used with caution. I'm on the lookout for something better.
