We lost power after hurricane Ike, and due to the cost of running the generator, were very conservative about using the generator for almost two weeks. We were making coffee in the evening, then drinking it cold (yuck) in the morning.

Luckily UPS was running shortly after the storm and we were members of Amazon Prime with their faster shipping included in the membership. We bought and received this carafe during the first week without power.

It's great. Coffee was still very hot after 10-12 hours in the carafe, and it held enough for four typical coffee mugs. Have to be careful with it as it has the glass liner, but I'm very pleased with this purchase. Have tucked it away for the next power outage (would be nice if I didn't need it ever again), but for a good looking carafe that keeps the beverage HOT, this one is a great choice.

I like tea, but I don't like a massive cup of tea because it's either scalding hot or lukewarm when I'm halfway done with it, and if I want another cup I have to go make it. Hence my search for a carafe.

So, on with my search, I wanted a carafe under 30 dollars and well built that would last. I didn't want a massive one since it was just me using it. This carafe fit the bill, it holds a quart of liquid (4 cups; 32 ounces) which lasts me through the day. It stays fully hot for 6-8 hours and it's medium warm in the morning if I left it overnight.

There's no push buttons, no strainers, it's just a simple pitcher, the black plastic seems like it's a solid one piece with a glass center. I'm not sure what the stuff is to make it thermal around it to retain the heat, but it works, and a screw on top. It looks just like the picture. That's it. It's well built (from Japan), it's sturdy, I have a feeling if I take care of it this will last for many years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great For My Needs, August 31, 2008

With a manual drip Filter Cone I can make 1 L of coffee directly into this carafe in three minutes or less. Coffee still is 150 degree F after being left overnight for over eight hours. The Screw top is a bit annoying but you get used to it after a while. Have had the unit for about a month without any issues.
